Below are pictures of the repair, restoration and set-up of an old American vintage (pre-1935) Washburn steel-string acoustic guitar. This pre-1935 Wasburn acoustic guitar had massive and numerous breaks, top cracks, back cracks, side cracks, loose neck joint, missing/broken binding on the fretboard and body, non-original end pins, plus heavy corrosion and rust on the tuning keys. A broken/cracked headstock, loose braces, top separations and missing purfling. The Washburn had previous repairs (of poor workmanship), missing and loose frets, plus the finish was quite dirty and with some areas that had softened (softened finished = chemical change = deterioration).
A complete restoration was undertaken which included removing the neck and back to facilitate proper repairs.
One might ask the question, "Is this guitar worth repairing?" - Yes. All solid wood, Brazilian rosewood sides and back, mahogany neck with ebony fretboard and original tuning keys. Answer: yes, yes, yes!!
The before pictures show the as-is condition before repairs/restoration began. Showing: numerous breaks, cracks, missing binding, heavy corrosion, broken headstock, top separations, missing purfling, missing frets, etc.
These pictures show the repairs in progress. Showing: the back removed, neck removed, internal condition of soundboard (top) and top braces.
These photos show the finished vintage Washburn with all repairs completed. Including replaced binding, full finish polish out and set-up with fret dress/polishing. Good for another 75-100 years with loving care.
