Below are pictures of a late 60's Fender Coronado II Electric F-Hole Guitar. The guitar belongs to it's original owner, Cliff Fowler of Big Bear, CA. Cliff played guitar during Jr. High and High School in Big Bear back in the day. Because of the extreme shifts in temperature and humidity of the Big Bear Mountain Area this guitar has taken mostly a "passive" beating.
Because of it's as-is condition of finish cracks, corrosion of metal parts including frets, tuning keys, bridge, etc. and electrical problems, a complete tear-down was undertaken.
The before pictures show the condition of this Fender Coronado II guitar. Photos show: Major Finish cracking and lifting on the entire body (top, sides, back), corrosion on ALL metal parts (tuning keys, bridge, pick-ups, tailpiece, electrical parts). Imprinting of a "vinyl" guitar strap to the finish on the body's back side. Corrosion to frets, plus flat frets.
These pictures show the work in progess on this Fender Coronado II guitar. The Guitar has been torn down, and showing an experimental technique I used to repair the cracks and lifting finish. This technique was extremely time intense, however yeilding great results and saving/restoring the original finish and thus the value of this classic/vintage Fender Guitar.
