Here at MayosMusic, in addition to offering great guitar, bass, ukulele, banjo and autoharp lessons, plus complete luthier services that include guitar, string instrument and amplifier repair/restortions, we are also a great resource service. The following is a brief life lesson.
The best advice I ever received and can pass on is to LOVE what you do. Whether playing an instrument, singing, dancing or acting, without passion you will never succeed. You might want to start off slow, but once you decide the path you want to take, immerce yourself in it!
If it is acting, watch old molvies and learn from the best. A lot of current actors give workshops, especially on PBS.
If it is singing, sing along with everything (car radio, home stereo, even the jingle ads on T.V.) and every genre of music. It will increase your range, help with learning phrasing, etc.
If it is dancing, try all forms: ballet, jazz, tap, swing, hip-hop, ALL OF IT!
If it is playing an instrument, guitar or piano is a great place to start. The guitar is more versitile and very mobile and the piano is quite accessible. Once you learn to read music, it is easier to branch out and to apply those notes to other instruments.
Always remember the more you know the more valuable you are.
As William Shakespere said in the 1600's, and I quote:
“If music be the food of love, play on”!
